- On the day Celtic's new stand is opened their visitors have the bad luck of playing a major part of the game with 10 men against a Celtic team in joint first place in the League with Rangers and in good form.
- St Bernard's Football Club played a major role in Scottish football's formative years. The Edinburgh club, based in the Stockbridge/Canonmills district had their greatest triumph in winning of the Scottish Cup in 1895. Founded in 1878 their name is taken from the association of that area of Edinburgh with Saint Bernard of Clairvaux who was said to have lived in a cave there.
- The Glasgow Herald's war correspondent gives much news of the Boer War and in particular the fighting at Ladysmith and Mafeking. LINK
- The same edition of the Herald notes that an invitation to attend a Masonic centenial service for George Washington from the Grand Lodge of Freemasons of Virginia to the Prince of Wales has had to be declined due to the prince's other commitments.

CELTIC V ST BERNARD'S – This match was played at Celtic Park on Saturday in very unfavourable weather, before 3,000 spectators. Teams:- Celtic – McArthur; Turnbull and Storrier; Battles, Russell and Orr, Hodge and Gilhooly; Campbell; McMahon and Bell. Saint Bernard's – Barclay; Kay and Wood; Maxwell, Totten and Garner; Atherton and Lee, Buchanan, Bell and Waddell. Referee, Mr D Campbell (Bridge of Weir). The game in the first half was of a very poor nature, the Celts, with wind and rain in their favour, doing all the pressing, and Gilhooly (2), Hodge (2), and McMahon scoring, they led by 5 goals to nothing at half time. The second half was of a more even description, the Saint Bernards playing well in the outfield, but finishing badly. Both goals had narrow escapes, but neither team scored, and the game ended – Celtic 5 goals, St Bernards, 0. The Saints lost the services of Maxwell fifteen minutes after the start, and played with ten men the remainder of the game. £64 were drawn at the gate and stand.
Before the game commenced the new stand was formally opened by Councillor Ferguson in presence of an invited company.
