The Scotsman, Monday 28th December, 1914
Some 6000 spectators turned out to see the struggle between Celtic and Hamilton Academicals at Celtic Park, Glasgow.
From the outset the Celts attacked strongly, but the visitors – who were minus McNamee, their centre-half – put up a great defence, Watson in goal defying the Celts’ sharp-shooters. He had, however, to admit defeat after thirty minutes’ play, Gallagher accepting a pass from McMenemy, and scoring with a fine shot. Two minutes later Quinn added a second goal.
In the second half the visitors quite held their own, but the forwards failed at close quarters, Shaw being seldom in trouble. In the closing stages the Celtic applied a lot of pressure, which resulted in Gallagher scoring from Browning’s cross.
Five minutes from the finish Stewart cleverly outwitted Dodds and gave Shaw no chance with a fine shot.
