Match report from The Scotsman, 1st November 1920

After a hard and keenly contested game before 30,000 spectators at Tynecastle, Edinburgh, the Celtic just beat the Heart of Midlothian by scoring the only goal of the match with only one minute to go. The Hearts, who had to play Mercer at back and Miller at right half, through Birrell losing his train, had the better of the first period. Shaw had more to do than Kane, and once the former had the good fortune to find what seemed an unsaveable by W. Wilson rebound off him into play. After the interval the game was evenly contested for 30 minutes, buring which Preston and J. Wilson defended in resolute fashion, but during the closing quarter of an hour the run of the game favoured the Celts, who were desperately keen on scoring. They did net the ball once and were awarded a goal, but, following protests ny the Hearts’ players, the referee called in the linesmen and the goal was cancelled. Some feeling then crept into the game, and when it seemed as if the Hearts would secire a good draw Cassidy scored with a good shot that was travelling away from Kane, and the Celts were, accordingly, somewhat fortunate in securing both points.
