Match report from The Scotsman, 3rd January 1922
[…] Fully 12,000 saw a rousing contest at Hamilton between Hamilton Academicals and the Celtic. Goals came easily to the Celtic, although they had by no means a preponderance of play. McStay got the first in twenty minutes, and Gallacher got the second just on the interval. The Hamilton men played vigorously in the second half, and McMillan scored a goal, which gave the local side some confidence, and the Celtic defence came through a trying time. Eventually McAtee scored from a free kick, and the game was lost and won. The Celtic’s defence was good, and the forwards did well at close quarters. The Hamilton side were disjointed by comparison, yet on the run of play did not deserve to be defeated by a couple of goals.

A penalty kick to Celtic, turned to good account by McStay, gave the visitors an early lead, which was added to by Gallagher close on the interval. The Academicals scored in the second half through McMillan, but McAtee scored a third goal for Celtic from a free kick, and the visitors ran away easy winners.
