HEARTS' UNAVAILING RECOVERY
With the Scottish Cup on view, and the Celtic making their first appearance at Parkhead, Glasgow, since winning it, the attendance, estimated at some 10,000, was disappointing for the visit of the Heart of Midlothian. Of the successful Celtic side W. McStay and McAtee were absentees, but in Thomson, the latter's substitute, the Celtic had a capable forward, and one who secured the first goal ten minutes from the start. Though against the wind, the Celtic were at the start the better side. The Hearts, with Henderson in place of Chapman, played too closely, and did not shoot enough. Their movements, too, were slow compared with those of the Celts, who skipped over the ground and made headway much more easily. After twenty-five minutes Cassidy went through, and on W. White coming out of his goal the Celtic centre sent the ball into the empty goal. In the second half the Hearts were seen to better advantage. They kept going, and W. Wilson got over some useful centres, from one of which Henderson headed the ball past Shaw. In the closing stages the Hearts tried hard, but failed to get the equalising goal. The forwards improved, and so did Dand, Wright, and Ramage, and the Celtic had not the easy time they had earlier. Indeed, the Hearts pressed them towards the finish.
