The Glasgow Herald, Mon Feb 16, 1925
Celtic attacked at the start, but McGrory drove over twice. St Johnstone took play to the other end, and Fleming headed past Shevlin. Celtic replied strongly and kept the St Johnstone defence busy. Close on the interval Connolly brought the scores level. After change of ends Celtic were the more prominent side, but their finishing was untidy. After almost half an hour’s play Thomson beat Dempster.

A CELTIC SUCCESS
The conditions were of the worst description at Celtic Park, Glasgow, where the Celtic put a stop to St Johnstone’s run of successes. Heavy rain fell throughout, and the field in the second half was like a quagmire. The play however, particularly in the first half, contained many thrills, and the five thousand who braved the storm were well repaid. The Celtic started well but the worrying tactics of the St Johnstone defenders kept them in check, and Dempster had only one shot from Connelly to clear. When the St Johnstone forwards got on the move they kept the ball moving freely. Thomson did some good work on the right, and from one of his crosses Fleming headed the ball past Shevlin into the net. Thereafter the Celtic were decidedly “on top”, and only grand work by Dempster, Penman and McClure kept the Celtic from drawing level. The Celtic made the mistake of playing too closely, but just on the interval Connolly, after beating McClure scored a fine goal. The second half was more or less continuous attack by the Celtic, with the St Johnstone defence foiling them at every point. It looked as if the game would end in a draw when Dempster, in dealing with a shot, slipped in the mud. The ball dropped from his hands, and Gallacher, who had followed up, got possession and crossed to Thomson, who headed into an empty goal. St Johnstone had a chance to draw level in the closing minutes, but Black shot weakly into Shevlin. Dempster, Penman, Walker, Fleming and Sanderson were outstanding for the visitors, and McNair, McFarlane, Gallacher, and Connolly were best for the Celtic.
