Celtic Career Review
A goalkeeper picked up from Larkhall-based Junior club Royal Albert to spend the second half of the 1979/80 season with Celtic. His father was the infamous referee R.H. Davidson (Airdrie), a three-time World Cup official later awarded an entire chapter in Tom Campbell's book Celtic's Paranoia… All in the Mind?
Alan was released back to the Juniors at the end of that season but was soon picked up by Airdrieonians and embarked on a long career in the senior game.
After failing to dislodge John Martin at Airdrie he moved on to Queen of the South in August 1982 and was with the 'doonhamers' until February 1994, punctuated only with a two year stint in Oz with Floreat Athena (1988-1989). A short spell in the North of Ireland with Ards preceded a return to Lanarkshire the following summer with Albion Rovers.
Gradually dropped out of the picture at Rovers and subsequently 'went Junior' in 1997 with his next club mentioned as Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. Was later drafted in by Armadale Thistle boss Martin Clark (son of John) after their first choice custodian Peter Davis was handed a 6 year ban in September 1998.
