Full-back Michael Davitt made just a solitary first team appearance during his six season stay at Parkhead.
The player signed from St Francis Juniors in June 1935, and made his one and only competitive game at Parkhead when the Hoops drew 1-1 with Ayr United on 26th March 1938. The Glasgow Herald report on the game absolved Davitt and Fitzsimmons (both deputising in this game for others) for any blame for the result, but Celtic were said to not have “their usual sparkle, particularly in attack“.
Still, he played a minor walk-on bit part in the league title winning season of 1937-38, the last for Celtic for around a generation, and so good timing for him to win his only First Team appearance.
Wartime was to begin a year later, and thereafter all was to change, and Michael Davitt was let go in 1941 at what was a poorly managed and performing Celtic during that difficult era. He was already well out the picture for the first team at this point.
His family carried on a Celtic line when his grand-daughter married ex-Celtic player Gerry Britton.
Michael Davitt passed away in 1973.
