Billy Dolan was a youth signing onto the groundstaff at Celtic Park sometime during the 88/89 season. He never played first team football but made 1 representative appearance in a Friendly against a New Zealand Select XI in February 1992. He played predominantly Reserve League West games in 89/90, the equivalent of a youth team league – though towards the end of the season he started to appear on Premier Reserve team sheets. He played Reserve and Youth teams throughout season 91/92 and was frustrated seeing Mark McNally get on in the senior squad. He was on a full pro contract at the start of 91/92 season. On the 11/3/93 he was given a free transfer by the Club and told that there was no future for him at Celtic, however 93/94 saw him back in the Premier Reserves with the final year of his contract and still free-transfer listed. In January 1994 he went on a week's trial to St Mirren and left for them with a contract till the end of the season on 9/2/94.
Dolan was a stalwart defender who never really broke through but was always well respected at Reserve level. In total he made 146 Reserve appearances during his five years at the club, scoring 6 times. He has since left full-time football and became a postman and now plays Sunday League football
