A remembrance even was held by the Celtic Graves Society, who marked the day with a headstone to replace the blank space to give Peter the respect he deserves.

Peter Dowds lies in an unmarked grave in Abbey Cemetery, Elderslie.
“To the present generation Peter Dowds is not even a name, but to old-timers he was the greatest-ever, at home in any and every position, the equal of a Doyle or Kelly in defence, of Madden on the right, Campbell on the left, Cassidy at centre . . . ” – Willie Maley
His grave is only a short distance away from fellow Johnstone Celt, Peter Scarff.
