Synopsis

A celebration of Swedish international Henrik Larsson's first 100 goals for his club Celtic. His arrival at Celtic Park in 1997 turned the club's fortunes around and helped Celtic become a formidable team in the Scottish Premiership, taking the title from arch rivals Ranger's grasp in 1999. Larsson's goals put Celtic back on course for another Premiership success, under new manager Martin O'Neill and with the help of new signing Chris Sutton from Chelsea, making Larsson the new hero at Celtic Park.

'TON'gue in CheekIt’s listed as 100 Great Larsson goals but I think they are over egging it a bit. It’s a 100 Larsson Celtic goals. Some are great, some not so great but watching Larsson scoring goals is not really time wasted. As far as I can work out this is probably Larrson’s first 100 goals for Celtic up to February 2001 in MON’s treble season. I kept a running total as I was watching and of the 100 goals 58 were scored with his right foot, 15 with his left and an incredible 27 with his head.

One thing the current Celtic team lacks is someone who can score with their head. Larsson just seemed to have the ability to make himself invisible in the box and suddenly appear to score. Also 15 of his goals scored with his right were penalties. Heaping praise on Henrik are Martin O’Neill, Tom Boyd, Johan Mjallby, and Paul Lambert who discuss the striker after every 10 goals are shown.

There’s not a whole lot you can say about a DVD that is mainly just clips of Henrik scoring. You can just sit back and relive the great memories. The hat-trick in the snow at Tynecastle, the headed goal in Lubo’s debut game where he cooly crossed the ball with the outside of his right boot, his first goal after getting rid of the dreadlocks at Aberdeen and of course the one that is probably regarded as his best goal, the chip in the 6-2 game. As Henrik himself says when talking about the goal and in calm understatement ‘Best option was for a chip and everyone was happy’. Yeah we were just a little happy.

I do have a couple of gripes about the DVD though. Why not put the goals in chronological order, I don’t see why they have to be mixed up. Also could they not add captions telling you where and when each match shown was played and the final score so we get a bit of context? This is a recurring bug bear for me when watching DVDs that contain a lot of match footage.

As well as getting this DVD on its own you can also get it as an extra on The Bhoy Who Would be King DVD. Obviously subsequent releases have these goals and more so this one might be just for completists.
