A statue and remembrance garden in memory of Jimmy Johnstone opened on Sunday August 14th 2011 in the legendary winger's home village of Viewpark.
This wonderful tribute to Wee Jinky was the result of incredible work by the Jimmy Johnstone Memorial Committee. The committee's relentless fund-raising efforts were supported not just throughout the local community but by Celtic supporters from across the globe.
Jinky's talent was such that even fans of Rangers got in on the act. Local supporters clubs took part in fund-raising as did former Ibrox heroes Willie Henderson and Graeme Souness. Indeed so overwhelming was the support and generosity of the great man's many fans that the committee were also able to handover a £5000 cheque for Motor Neurone Research.
The memorial garden and life-size statue is located at 661 Old Edinburgh Road, Viewpark – just a short distance from Jinky's childhood home and on the former site of his old primary school of St Columba’s.
