Songs and Anthems | Legends and Supporters | Harry Hood
Few Celtic players have had the number of songs written in their name than Harry Hood has.
Lyrics
#1
Harry Hood, Harry Hood riding through the glen.
Harry Hood, Harry Hood, and his fenian men.
Loved by the tims, hated by the huns, – (alternative line: Feared by the bad loved by the good)
Harry Hood, Harry Hood, Harry Hood.
(Sung to the old Robin Hood TV show theme tune, if you are old enough to remember it….very cheesy!)
#2
#Oh a dirty wee hun came up to me,
He asked me the secret of the Celtic team.
I answered him as best I could,
The answer I gave was Harry Hood.#
#3
#Oh Harry, Harry, Harry Hood,
We loved you Harry, like no-one else could
You can keep your Rangers and your Colin Stein
Cos we’ve got Harry in the Celtic team.#
Also:
We don’t need your Colin Stein
Eusebio or Alan Gilzean
We’ve got someone twice as good
We’ve got Harry Harry Hood
(This was to the tune of Helule Helule, a 1968 hit for The Tremeloes – or, perhaps more accurately, a miss. It was also a response to a Rangers version of the same tune, the words of which were..Colin, Colin, Colin Stein, Colin, Colin Stein…….repeat ad nauseum. Huns imaginative as ever….)
Also:
(As the chorus to the “We don’t need your Colin Stein chant . . . )
Oh Harry Harry Harry
Oh Lou Macari
Oh Kevin Barry
Oh Harry Hood (Oh Harry Hood!)
Also:
In the spring of 1969 Celtic signed Harry from Clyde for £40,000 and Rangers signed Colin Stein from Hibs for £100,000.
In September 1969 Rangers played Celtic at Ibrox and Celtic won 1-0 with Harry scoring the winner and being man of the match. At the end of the match Celtic fans sang:
‘Harry, Harry, Harry Hood, he’s half the price but twice as good !!!’
A great chant but let’s not mention the arithmetic involved.
Also:
In the early 1970’s Roger Whittaker had a chart hit with the song Mammy Blue. Celtic fans took to singing the chorus to Harry’s name:
‘Oh Harry Hood, Harry, Harry Hood, oh Harry Hood !!!’
