If you only ever buy one book on Celtic's history then this is the one.
Generally regarded as a must read, its sweep is quite incredible, packing in a whole history as succinctly as you can get. Doesn't cut corners and is quite even handed in things related to Celtic (despite being aimed at Celtic fans) but gives critical conclusions where deserving (esp on the first Celtic board). From the foundations of the club to the early days of domination, then the rise of Rangers and fall of Celtic till Jock Stein's arrival and so on, and this book closes on on the entrance of the new management under Kenny Dalglish. All is here and a simple few lines on each of an incredible number of games and players.
In truth, it can be quite a dry read but don't let this put you off. It's quite magisterial in it's breadth and coverage, and it encompasses so much it's hard to know what to say. If you go to any Celtic historian's bookshelf the one book they all will have is this one. That says it all really, it's an incredible reference book.
Practically indispensable. If anyone wants to go on 'Mastermind' with Celtic as their chosen questions, one read of this and you won't get any questions wrong.
An essential book for all Celtic supporters.
