Biog
Celtic signed the relatively mature player Jim Barrie from US side Fall River in 1930. Born in Old Kilpatrick his career with the Bhoys was however exceptionally short lived and he would make just a solitary appearance in the Hoops before being released the same year.
His one appearance came aged 27 at right-back in a league clash at home to Airdrie which Celtic lost 2-1. This was a brutal match which saw John Thomson take a brutal kicking from opposition player Bobby Skinner. Peter McGonagle also lost teeth in this match, and broke his jaw and collarbone!
With competition for the right-back slot from the likes of Willie Cook and Chic Geatons it is perhaps not surprising that Jim Barrie’s stint at Parkhead was so brief.
His one and only game with Celtic was a bone-crunching affair, and similarly Jim Barrie is remembered at Halifax Town for having played the last ten minutes of a cup tie against Bournemouth on 9th January 1932 with a broken arm.
