Biog

Former Holytown Thistle centre-forward John Clark was a loan signing from Clyde in March 1903.

He played his first game for the Bhoys on 14th March 1903 when he scored in a 2-0 league victory at Morton.

Following the great start, John Clark was given a place for the following match but it was a reverse scoreline with a 2-0 defeat to Dundee away. The matches were the last two of the league season with Celtic ending in fifth place in the league way behind Hibernian who won the title.

He was to return to Clyde in May, and sadly for him he didn’t get to play with Celtic in the end of season Glasgow Charity Cup which was won by Celtic in May 1903.

However, tragedy was to strike just three seasons after he left Celtic when he died prematurely of enteric fever (i.e. typhoid). He was only 25.

Out of respect, Celtic played a benefit match for his family against Clyde at Shawfield on 29th Aug 1906.
