Centre-half Pat Donlevy played just one competitive game for Celtic after signing for the club from Glasgow Perthshire in March 1898, having previously played for Kilsyth Emmet and Duntocher Hibernian.
His solitary league appearance came on September 26th that year in a 2-1 defeat at home to Hibernian. Likely a forced change as just the week before Celtic had been humiliated at home in a 4-0 defeat to Rangers in the league. He was unlucky as despite Celtic having been superior in the match according to the reports, Hibs came from behind to be ‘extremely lucky victors‘ with two late goals from free kicks, the second one close to the death of the match.
He actually played one other game for Celtic, this time against Rangers at Barrowfield for the “Engineers’ Strike Fund“.
He left Parkhead in October 1898 having never played another major competitive match for the first team again (he was part of a large scale cull of the reserves at that time), and made a move to Airdrie.
He had signed for Celtic in a league title winning season, but sadly Celtic never won the title the following season when he actually finally won a place for the first team.
He later moved to Thornliebank and Arthrulie.
He retired from play in 1903.
