Biog

Stevenston-born defender Alexander Fullarton signed for Celtic in April 1917 after playing in a charity match for the Bhoys in May 1916 in what was to be a brief spell for him at Celtic during the war years.

Described as “a right-back of rare physique and style“.

The great Patsy Gallacher once said of him:

He has the makings of another Hughie Watson whom I never saw play but have heard a lot of“.

Having signed in 1916, he was loaned out to Stevenston Utd, before returning back in April 1917 to Celtic.

His competitive debut came in April 1917 in a 5-0 league victory at Clyde, the last match of the title triumph for the four-in-a-row team.

However, the right-back soon moved to Clydebank in July 1917 without playing another match for the Hoops.

Another unfortunate to have only earned just the one opportunity with the first team at Celtic, but it was the war years and other concerns understandably were more at the forefronts of the minds of everyone.

His next stint was again short, at Clydebank (just one season), and he then went on to play for Stevenston, Kilmarnock and various junior sides till he retired from play in 1932.

He is believed to have passed away in Kilmarnock in 1965.
