Tommy McMillan was an outside-left who was signed by Celtic from Baillieston Juniors in November 1952.
A promising talent he was pitched into an out of form Celtic team for his first team debut against East Fife on 26th August 1953. Despite his best efforts the youngster couldn’t prevent the Bhoys losing the League Cup tie 1-0, a tournament in which in the early years Celtic had very little (if any) luck at all.
He would only make one further appearance for the Hoops, three days later in a 2-0 victory over Airdrieonians in the same tournament. This was a season opening tournament back then.
Sadly, he was to miss out on first team involvement in the wonderful Coronation Cup and then the league & cup double winning sides of that same season (1953/54).
He was freed by the club in May 1954.
He went on to join Norwich the following month, playing for them for a season. He then moved on to play for Workington, Cowdenbeath and Berwick Rangers.
He is believed to have passed away in 1999. […to be confirmed…]
