Biog
Midfielder Evander Sno signed for Celtic in the summer of 2006 for £250,000 from Dutch giants Feyenord where he had failed to establish himself.
The 19-year-old was seen as a more long term signing but would make a favourable impression in his first season at Parkhead, starting some vital league and Champions League clashes.
Indeed his performances were such that he was called up for the Dutch squad for a friendly with England although ultimately he would not feature. Strong, technically sound, assured in possession and with good vision, Sno looked like he could develop into a real talent.
However the player suffered from a loss of form and confidence at the start of the 2007/08 campaign and his starting appearances were limited during the remainder of the campaign. He was not helped by an impatient section of the support who would greet any slight error with an audible groan, seemingly forgetting Sno’s relative youthfulness. Add in the vocal criticism he used to get for even the minor errors (partly due to frustration from the support) and it was hard to see how he was going to ever get better.
His dip in form was however noticeable, with Sno at times guilty of a lack of awareness. He also seemed to struggle with the frantic pace and more uncultured elements of the Scottish game,so as a consequence was prone to making unforced errors. The Scottish game wasn’t the main fault, and his deficiencies were there to see for all, and he could have pushed harder in games to make others eat their words.
Although he would collect his second league title in two seasons it was not a great personal campaign for the Dutchman as his progress unquestionably stalled. During the season, Sno, despite his failings, did show glimpses of a genuine midfield talent and hope remained that he could still prove to be a significant success at Parkhead.
However it wasn’t to be, and his deficiencies were never seemed to be going from his game. Too slow and pensive on the ball sometimes, a real handicap in the highly accelerated world of Scottish football, and he became too easy a target for the boo boys in the support. Still he managed a place on the bench coming on in various games, or even started matches.
He came on in important games like AC Milan away in the Champions League in the KO stage (showing that at least the management had some faith in him), but it wasn’t to be for him at Celtic.
In Aug 2008, Sno signed a 3 year deal with Ajax. A clean break was for the best, he wasn’t expected any longer to make it at Celtic, and Ajax was possibly a good fit for Sno in some ways.
Post-Celtic
However, even there things hadn’t been working out as well as hoped. A fair player but maybe not cut out for the top and when van Basten was released as manager of Ajax it was clear Sno’s time at the Amsterdam Arena was up as well. At the start of the 2009-10 season he was told that he was free to leave. He trialled with Hamburg but was not offered a contract
In late August 2009 he went on loan to Bristol City where he tied up again with ex-Celt Paul Hartley, before returning back to the Netherlands.
Sno, never made it to the top but he made a career for himself despite any doubters.
Frighteningly, he was involved in two major scares on the pitch. Twice Sno suffered heart-attacks on the pitch (in two separate matches over two years). A frightening situation, but thankfully Sno pulled through and incredibly carried on his career and recovered. Takes a lot of strength to do that.
However, the dramas didn’t end there and he was suspected of manslaughter, accused of severely beating two people in a violent brawl outside an Amsterdam club in 2013. He was cleared of the charges.

Thoughts of Celtic family with Evander Sno
By: Newsroom Staff on 30 Sep, 2012 19:02 THE news that former Celtic midfielder Evander Sno had suffered a suspected heart attack during a league game on Saturday was naturally a shock to everyone at the club and was quickly followed byan outpouring of concern for his well-being.
Now playing for NEC Nijmegen, the 25-year-old fell to the ground in the first-half of his side´s Eredivise encounter with Feyenoord.
Sno, who spent twoseasons in Paradise between 2006and 2008,had suffered a cardiac arrest two years ago while playing for Ajax reserves and was then fitted with an internal defibrillator.
After 35 minutes of yesterday´s game, heexperienced similar chest pain but a shock from the in-built device managed to reverse it. After leaving the pitch, he was taken to hospital for further treatment.
A Celtic spokesperson said: “Clearly all the best thoughts and best wishes of everyone at the club are with Evander and his family at this time, and we are sure Evandercan also count onthe support from the entireCeltic family.”

Ex-Celtic midfielder Evander Sno has retired from football after a series of off-field problems.

The Dutch midfielder spent two seasons at Parkhead, winning two SPL titles and the Scottish Cup before joining Ajax in 2008.
Sno, 30, was cleared of attempted murder in April following a 2013 incident that left two men seriously injured.
His heart stopped during a game in 2010, and he had another scare two years later.

Sno rejoined RKC Waalwijk for a third spell earlier this year, but has now been released by mutual consent after admitting he struggles with the journeys from his Amsterdam home.
Waalwijk football coordinator Ton Verkerk said: “Evander has had a tough time in his private life, and his situation has been swallowing up most of his time and energy.
“He has told us he has a lot of difficulty with the distance between Amsterdam and Waalwijk. He asked the club to consider a solution together with him.”
Sno has also played for Bristol City, NEC Nijmegen, Den Haag and Belgian club Westerlo.
