Background
During the early 1990s the popular Celtic fanzine Not The View (NTV) commissioned a bust of the great Jock Stein to be presented to Celtic on behalf of the club’s supporters.
However, the White/Kelly run Celtic old board at this time, in a typically clueless act refused to accept this gift due to the criticism by the NotTheView fanzine against the old board at the time.
It was a decision which only further isolated the out of touch board and as a consequence of their stubborn refusal to deal with NTV the bust was instead displayed at the People’s Palace on Glasgow Green.
Although the People’s Palace is a wonderful place it wasn’t the natural home for the Jock Stein bust. That could only have been Celtic Park.
Thankfully – with a welcome change of regime at Celtic Park – the Jock Stein bust eventually arrived at its rightful home in autumn 1995.
