Who are we?
The Kano Foundation is a group of volunteers working to help young children.
What do we do ?
We are working in in partnership with Celtic Football Club to offer a match-day experience at Celtic Park to a range of children’s groups.
What do you do ?
Check out this website, and , if you are interested , download , complete and return the application form available on the website. This form contains the basic info needed to begin the process.
Is this a legitimate offer?
Yes it is. In fact , enclosed is a letter of confirmation from Celtic FC confirming that we have the seats to give away and that they fully support the initiative.
What does it cost you/your organisation ?
Nothing. Well that depends on how you can get the children to the stadium. We will provide the tickets to allow your party (up to 41 children + 7 adult helpers) into the ground. You will be met by one of our volunteers and shown to your seats. The volunteer will be available throughout the match to help with any issues you may have.
Who are the volunteers?
Like us , they are Celtic fans who just want to help out. The volunteers work on a rota system and cover approx 2-3 games each per season. They are all fully SCRO checked and have completed full Disclosure Scotland checks.
What game will the children get to go to ?
That hasn’t been scheduled yet. What we can tell you is that we will not be able to take the children to any Celtic-Rangers game. Under the agreement we have with Celtic FC , the seats allocated to us are in the Lisbon Lions (East) stand – these seats are allocated to visiting fans for the aforementioned games.
We cannot guarantee a particular date (especially as television commitments can cause the game to be moved).
What we will try to do is contact successful applicants approx 4 weeks before their game.
This notice period will vary according to the time of the season (ie start of season , post-split).
What happens now?
Once we have received your application , and if you are successful , we will contact you to offer a date/range of dates to choose from. You will be required to ensure that you have complied with all requirements and that any helpers you provide have completed all the necessary checks.
For any further info , please email contactus@thekanofoundation.com.
Thank You…

This week Eddie is joined by John Paul Gilmartin, the chair of the Kano Foundation. After a quick review of the recent events this preseason and an almost convincing plea for clemency for Samaras John Paul discusses the Foundation. He talks of the inspiration and the philosophy behind the Foundation, the desire to ensure that those children less fortunate have the opportunity to attend Celtic Park, the logistics behind creating a foundation of this type and what he hopes the future may bring for the foundation. You can donate to the Kano Foundation at www.thekanofoundation.com. They can also be found on facebook.

Sad passing of our patron Martin Kane
http://www.thekanofoundation.com/?p=1469
January 9, 2015
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our patron and inspiration, Martin Kane.
The Kano Foundation took inspiration from the highly successful “Bringing Martin Home” fundraising effort that was undertaken by the Celtic fans.
After Martin, known as “Kano” to his friends, was struck down with the neurological condition Devic’s Syndrome, members of CQN forum kicked off a fundraising effort to pay for modifications to his house to get him home for Christmas with his family after spending a year in hospital.
One fundraising event was a bucket collection outside Celtic Park on a match-day.
The overall campaign exceeded the target and it was decided to use some of the extra money to take a group of children, who had volunteered at the bucket collection, to a match at Celtic Park. The idea for The Kano Foundation was born and since season 2010/2011 The Kano Foundation has been Keeping Football Free for Kids, giving over 3000 kids a unique match day experience at Celtic Park.
JP Gilmartin, trustee said:
“Martin’s passing has come as a shock to everyone at The Kano Foundation and our thoughts and prayers are with Carolyn, his children and his family at this sad time”.
“Martin was a well-loved member of the Celtic family and an inspiration to us all in the way he fought to overcome his illness”.
“We are honoured to have had him as our patron and it will be with a touch of sadness that we continue our work in his honour. But it will also be with the real privilege of having known him and we are sure Martin would be proud, just as he always was in life.”
“Rest in peace Martin”.
Rest In Peace, Martin ‘Kano’ Kane

EVERYONE at Celtic is saddened to hear of the passing of Martin ‘Kano’ Kane, who has died at the age of 46 in Perth, Australia.
Martin, originally from Glasgow, was struck down by a rare neurological condition, Devic’s Syndrome, in 2008.
His fellow Celtic fans became aware of his plight when they found out that he was stuck in a hospital, unable to go back home unless his house was re-fitted to cope with his needs.
The Celtic Family responded magnificently, and the ‘Bring Martin Home’ campaign was launched. Within weeks, Hoops fans had raised the £60,000 needed to allow Martin to go home to his family.
And it was out of that successful fundraising venture that the Kano Foundation was formed. Officially launched in 2010 by actor, David Hayman, and with Martin as its patron, the Kano Foundation has done an incredible job, in line with the club’s charitable roots and ethos, taking children free of charge to Celtic Park.
And just before Christmas, the 3,000th child was able to enjoy a day out at Paradise thanks to Kano Foundation.

In a statement, John Paul Gilmartin, a Kano Foundation trustee, said: “It is with great sadness that we learned overnight of the death of Martin ‘Kano’ Kane.
“Martin’s passing has come as a shock to everyone at The Kano Foundation and our thoughts and prayers are with Carolyn, his children and his family at this sad time.
“Martin was a well-loved member of the Celtic family and an inspiration to us all in the way he fought to overcome his illness.
“We are honoured to have had him as our patron and it will be with a touch of sadness that we continue our work in his honour. But it will also be with the real privilege of having known him and we are sure Martin would be proud, just as he always was in life. Rest in peace, Martin.”
Celtic Chief Executive, Peter Lawwell, said: “This is desperately sad news and the thoughts and prayers of everyone at the club are with Martin’s wife, Carolyn, his children, his family and his many friends in the Celtic family.
“Martin’s plight back in 2008 touched the hearts of Celtic supporters throughout the world, and they responded with characteristic generosity to ensure that Martin was able to return home to be with his family.
“The supporters saw that one of their own was in need of help, and they acted as Celtic fans always do to help.
“And out of the ‘Bring Martin Home’ campaign, the Kano Foundation was born. Its aims are very much in keeping with Celtic’s charitable ethos, and it is remarkable testament to their fantastic work that over 3,000 children have been able to come along to Celtic Park, completely free of charge, to cheer on their heroes.
“The news of Martin’s passing is extremely sad for the Celtic family, but I know that the ongoing work of the Kano Foundation will be a fitting and lasting tribute to a courageous Celtic supporter who was always faithful through and through.”
