Reference: Over zealous Celtic supporters
Started: Around 2007-2008
Description
The term began to be used from around 2007 or 2008. It is a wind-up term amongst the support to those Celtic fans who some would say can be a bit more zealous than the general Celtic supporter.
General traits:
– they only support Celtic,
– they have no interest or sympathy in any way for any other teams,
– they especially don't care for the national side (or any international football tournament) believing that it is against Celtic's best interest first, and so on.
In addition, an UberCelt would claim that they go to every single Celtic game and like to chastise others for not doing similar. They also likely have everything decorated in Celtic colours.
It's really just a cartoonish term used in humour and in banter between the cross-section of Celtic's fans and nothing more. Many big clubs have supporters who can act similarly. It's usually nothing more than that some people are just characters, and every support needs them to add colour and humour.
On occasion, it is a term bandied against the Green Brigade, but as said it's a humorous term and nothing more. The Green Brigade and similar groups have brought colour to the Celtic support and so their zeal for the club (when it is concentrated on the team alone) is very much welcomed.
In any case, we all love our club and we all wish to do our bit to help it out to the benefit of the whole support.
Humorous examples of UberCelt behaviour:
- Toothbrush must always be green
- PIN numbers are 1967 or 1888 etc
- Petrol is £18.88 or 19.67 and always at pump 6 or 7 if available
- Passwords are lisboa67, jimcraigsinnocent, gemmell63, chalmers84
- Finger through any Hun 'celebration' cakes, and used to hide 'Rangers News' behind 'Women's Own' at the newsagents
- If the round was £16.90 then "Oh and a dash of lime, please!"
- Bless yourself on entry to Celtic Park and at kick-off
