Cambuslang v Celtic – The first League match between these teams was played at Cambuslang before a large turnout of spectators. Madden kicked off, and McMahon and Campbell ran the ball past the posts. Returning a minute later, Ross was forced to use hands to save his goal. Although the visitors were playing against the wind, they were keeping the Cambuslang defence busy. Urged on by the shouts of their supporters, the village forwards made for the other end. Some splendid work was indulged before Cullen, but Jamieson’s shot was rather wide. At the other goal the Celtic has some fine tries, and had it not been for smart work by Buchanan, Coyle, and Jamieson, Ross’ goal must have fallen. Cambuslang had now most of the game, and Cullen had time after time to save. Close on half-time McMahon and Campbell each beat Ross, and the result at the interval was in Celtic’s favour by two goals to nil. Cambuslang restarted the game, and approached the Glasgow posts, but with a swinging kick Doyle repelled the attack. Once more returning Low had a beautiful run along the right. A corner resulted, but Kelly defended admirably. For the next twenty minutes, although play was even in general, the Celtic had rather the better of it. After thirty minutes had gone Brady with a low shot added another point to the Celtic total. Still maintaining their superiority the Celts again were successful in beating Ross and ran out winners by four goals to none.
