Trivia
- Stanley Matthews, admitted that he had been prepared for Jimmy Delaney (Man. Utd.) causing a certain amount of consternation in the England defence in last Saturday’s international, “but not the widespread confusion that seemed to permeate the defence when Delaney was in the vicinity of goal.” Delaney is tipped to lead the F.I.F.A. (Europe) team at Hampden Park on May 10.
Review

The Glasgow Herald – April 16, 1947
Jones, the burly centre forward who played for the Irish Junior International team against Scotland at Firhill Park on
Glasgow Spring Holiday and scored both of his sides goals, was in fine form for his club, Belfast Celtic, yesterday when
they drew 4-4 with Celtic, who were playing the first match of their Irish tour.
Jones, who is normally a member of Belfast Celtic second eleven, which is his qualification for playing for junior Ireland,
scored three goals, McAloon (2) and Bogan, (2) scored for Celtic and Bonnar had the home side’s fourth goal.
