Trivia
- A replay of the first round game played in mid-October at Ibrox which had finished 2-2. This was a Wednesday afternoon game with a 2:30pm kick off.
- Scotland had been hit by snow with many roads impossible but this game at Celtic Park went on despite the ground being hard with freezing conditions with a 2:30pm kick off. Back in came Stevie Chalmers. Bobby Craig was dropped – or rather was ill when he arrived at Celtic Park – he was still commuting back and forth to Blackburn – and back in came Bobby Jeffrey on the left wing.
- Celtic would meet Partick Thistle in the semi-final
Review
Cold, foggy, hard and slippery underfoot.
A very decent game given the conditions with fog throughout so that you could not see one end from the other. Crerand got the first goal direct from a free kick. Divers made both Murdoch’s goals, the second coming three minutes from the end of extra time.
This win along with the goalless draw against Dundee, was hailed as a validation of the Celtic youth policy and as such the praises of Murdoch, Young and Jeffrey were shouted on high with big things expected of them in the future.
