Trivia
- Morale at the club was at an all time low having now been beaten by Rangers 3-0 three times on the trot. It was clear that signings in the forward department were required but the lacking throughout the club was becoming all too evident to the supporters. The team and the management had both been barracked by the supporters.
- The deadline for the ECWC signings came and went with Celtic signing no one new.
- There were rumours that Celtic were about to make a bid to bring back the ex-St Mirren player Tommy Bryceland from Norwich.
- No team was announced before the game. In the event it was an unchanged side that ran out on the park for Celtic, the performance against Rangers having been deemed good enough to pass muster against Kilmarnock or there simply being a lack of ideas and alternatives.
Review
Not so much a case of Celtic finding the key, more of Kilmarnock having not a clue. Celtic's first goal came when Divers lobbed the keeper. Though Celtic again had the majority of possession and Kilmarnock's defense looked weak it took till fifteen minutes from time to score a second goal. Even a penalty awarded on 56 minutes went begging with MacKay when his weak shot was saved by Forsyth.
