Trivia
- Played the day after an important win at Firhill in the League, this was very much a Reserve team put out to contest the trophy. All the players, except David Young and Jim Duffy had either had first team experience or would go on to play for the first team.
- Clyde were managed by Craig Brown, who had also been a Clyde player in his time. They were part timers and still playing at a rapidly decaying Shawfield stadium just down the road from Celtic Park.
- This was a semi final.
Review
Peter Mackie's rocket shot in 11 minutes is described as one of the best goals ever scored at Parkhead. McCabe pulled them level and on the half hour they went ahead when a McCabe shot was handled by Joe Filippi and the resulting penalty scored by Ahern.
Back came Celtic with Peter Mackie getting a second before Jimmy Lumsden settled matters from the spot.
