Review
When Celtic were knocked out of the European Cup Winners Cup by Athletico Madrid following the game played behind closed doors at Celtic Park on 2/10/85, Davie Hay wanted to arrange some further European games further in the season. These would of course be dependent upon the progress of other teams through the various European tournaments. As it was, Mark McGhee was signed from Hamburg on 5/11/85 and as part of the deal Hamburg came and played a Friendly on 9/12/85 at Celtic Park. A further Friendly was then arranged with Manchester Utd on 25th February 1986 in an evening game KO 19:30.
