New Arrivals this season:-

Ronnie Simpson – signed in September as back-up knowing that Haffey wanted to leave; an experienced goalkeeper signed for a cheap fee.
John Kennedy – young goalkeeper signed from Belfast Distillery in March 1965; he would make 1 appearance the following season
Bertie Auld – rejoined the club in January 1965 for £12,000 having left for Birmingham City in May 1961 for £15,000. Stepped right into the team.
Jimmy Quinn – had been provisionally signed and farmed out to Maryhill and was seen in the Combined Reserves; survived the youth cull at the end of the season.
David Hay – was provisionally signed in January 1965 and made an appearance in the Combined Reserves as a 15 year old.
Jim Craig – had been on the books as an amateur whilst at Glasgow University but joined as a full professional this season
Hugh Maxwell – joined in November for £15,000 from Falkirk
Joe Haverty – came and went as a triallist for 1 month in October from and to Millwall

and the most important of them all…..

Jock Stein – rejoined the club as Manager, taking over the reins from the Board and Jimmy McGrory, on March 1965, to herald the dawn of a new era

Departures:-

Frank Haffey – left Celtic after losing his starting place the previous season to John Fallon; wanted at Third Lanark but chose a move to England joining Swindon Town
Duncan MacKay – left Celtic in November for first team football at Third Lanark
Tommy Curley – was released and given a free transfer at the end of the season.
Hugh Maxwell – left before the beginning of 1965-66 season for St Johnstone
Joe Haverty – came on loan from Millwall making one first team appearance before departing back to Millwall


Also released at the end of the season were a host of young players that never made a first team appearance but represented Celtic in either the A Reserves or the Combined Reserves
