Celtic v Northern – At Celtic Park. The home team were without Campbell and Duff, while Fraser was absent from the Northern. In the first half the Celtic had most of the play, but, strange to say, the Northern scored the first two goals. Result:- Celtic, three goals; Northern , two goals

The Northern defended the south goal, and the Celts, following the kick off, were soon down at their opponents' goal. The Northern custodian was almost beaten, but McKinnon came to the rescue in the nick of time. Back came the Celts, but the ball rolled over the line, and a free kick for tripping McCallum was well placed by the Celts, but nothing came of it.
The Northern gradually steadied, and making a bold inroad into their opponents' territory, they created a genuine surprise by scoring the first goal of the match. This occurred after ten minutes' play. It had the effect of causing the Celtic players to redouble their exertions, while it also inspired additional confidence in the Hyde Park men. The Celts were playing hard for a goal, but Brady was in fine saving form, and both McKinnon and Aitken were defending steadily. The Northern had a hard time of it, the Celts having three corners in succession. The first of these Tom Maley put clean through from the corner, but it had not touched anyone in it's progress.
The home players continued to press, but fate was against them. Both wings sending splendid shots straight into goal without effect. though the Celts were having the most of the play, the Northern were by no means idle. Martin was playing a fine game at centre half, while Greig and Gourley were ably seconding his efforts.
Occasionally the forwards would break away, but it was seldom.
McMahon now broke away brilliantly, displaying magnificent dribbling on the run. A likely chance was spoiled by Martin robbing Madden of the pass. The game was very interesting, the Celts showing up grandly.
At half-time the score stood – Northern , 2; Celtic 0.
On resuming the Celtic at once scored by Brady. The Northern had to submit to a positive bombardment, and, after a desperate struggle at the goalmouth, McCallum equalised. The Northern tried hard to get another goal, but were beaten back. McMahon had a straight drive from long range, but Brady tipped the ball over the bar. Nothing resulted from the corner kick, which McCallum sent behind. The Celtic did not slacken their efforts, and were bent on increasing their score.
It was a more difficult task than they bargained for, as the Northern backs were very active.
The result was – Celtic, 3 goals; Northern, 2 goals.
