New Arrivals and debuts

New to the squad this year was the first crop that would go on to become the Quality Street Gang take over from the Lisbon Lions.

Willie Wallacewhen Joe McBride fell foul of knee trouble at the turn of the year Celtic invested £30,000 in buying Wallace from Hearts. Wallace had fallen out at Hearts and was on the brink of emigrating before Celtic made their wishes known. Willie fitted right into the team making his debut on the 10th December 1966 and carried on where Joe had left off.

Lou Macari – played for the Reserves at inside forward throughout the season and clearly had a big future.
John Gorman – a left back taken onto the groundstaff as an apprentice. He played very little this season.
John Taggart, Willie McKenna, Hugh McKellar and Pat McMahon – all joined the groundstaff this season (though McMahon had joined right at the end of the season following Lisbon) – only McMahon would go on to play for the first team.

Departures

John Cushleymain understudy for Billy McNeill and a scholar, West Ham came looking for a reliable centre half and £20,000 persuaded Celtic to part with him.
Bent Martin
– sold out of the blue to Dunfermiline and had a lucky break when the regular goalkeeper damaged ribs allowing the Dane to establish himself in the first team
Jack Kennedy – the young Irish goalkeeper was released on a free at the end of the season. He would go on to play for Glentoran and in the States (recruited by ex-Celt John Colrain) before joining Lincoln City
Frank McCarrona well-liked centre half at Celtic who generally had plied his time in the Reserves and missed his chance when taken on the American tour in the closed season between 65/66 and 66/67 when he injured an ankle
John Halpin – and young defender who had joined the groundstaff straight from school and was released at the end of the season
